Groom’s cakes are a southern tradition. They first came about to be a rich, chocolate cake to complement the white, fluffy bride’s cake. However, tradition has changed a little bit. Now-a-days, I see chocolate in the bride’s cake and white cake in the groom’s cake. I recommend choosing flavors that you and your fiance love and what you think your guests will enjoy!

Typically, the groom’s cake represents something that describes him. Maybe it is a sport’s team. Maybe it is his hobby such as fishing, hunting, playing poker, etc. Maybe it is simply just a chocolate cake.
Did you know that the groom’s cake usually was not served at the reception. It was sliced up in boxes for the guests to take home. Supposedly, if a single woman put the cake slice underneath her pillow while she slept, she would dream of her future husband! Ha! I have never seen a single woman at a wedding I plan ask me if she could take a slice home. Maybe when they start playing Beyonce’s, “All The Single Ladies” for the bouquet toss, I should go out there with cake slices in to-go boxes and hand them out! Then they will dream of their future hubby!
