Holli B. Photography:

hollib

I actually heard about Holli long before I met her. I had met people that used her for their photographer and they all bragged about her non-stop. I could not wait to meet her. When my bride said she had already booked Holli B. Photography for her photographer, I was ecstatic. We had a great time talking at the wedding and getting to know each other. Now, from personal experience, I can brag on her just like all her previous brides do. She is not only an incredibly talented photographer, she is an inredible woman that you, your fiance, your bridal party and your family members will all love to work with you on your big day! I would highly recommend checking her out for your wedding, bridal, and/or engagement needs.

I asked Holli if she could answer a few questions for me so that we might know a little bit more about who she is, how she got into photography, and what she loves about it:

1. How long have you been in the business?
Been in the wedding business full time for 3 full years- been shooting for over 10.

2. How did you get involved in photography and how did Holli B. come into existence? I was always that girl with the camera all thru high school and got my first film SLR for my high school graduation gift. I started college as a Journalism major and took a lot of film and dark room photography classes in college. I finished with an arts degree from the University of Oklahoma. During this time my husband played professional baseball for 8 years and we traveled all over the country playing pro ball. I was always shooting for the team, the players and their wives and following photographers from whatever state we were playing in. I also shot all of my best friends weddings while we were all in college (with film, sadly it was that long ago…)  and after that I thought hey I should try and get paid for this fun hobby. I started working with a lot of different photographers from all over and learned a lot about different styles of photography. I then made my own website and put some images in a gallery and booked 43 weddings my first year. Last year my husband retired from baseball and started working and shooting weddings with me and this year we have hired Taylor full time to shoot weddings and do all of our design work. It has been an awesome 3 years!

3. What do you love about shooting weddings? I love that every wedding is COMPLETELY different from the next. One week it will be at the Skirvin and super swanky and the next week it will be a lovely intimate ceremony in someones back yard ( i love them both equally!) I love getting to know my brides and grooms and the wedding party and just being completely IN their lives for the entire process. I have the BEST brides! They are now some of my best friends!

4. What would you tell a bride regarding her pictures on her wedding day? I would tell brides to thoroughly look at wedding photographers. Meet with more than one and make sure their personality fits with yours. You will end up spending a lot of time together during the whole process (engagement, bridals, wedding day) so you REALLY want someone who you feel comfortable with. The comfort factor really shows up in photos. I dont require that my brides meet the groom before the ceremony but I think it is AWESOME when they do! They get “THAT” moment when he sees you in your dress for the first time TWICE! You also have time to talk, kiss, and talk before you walk down the aisle and the busyness begins. The time we as photographers have with the bride and groom is usually more when you meet before the ceremony so that gives us more time to be creative and “play” and get some incredible photos of the two of you together on your wedding day.

Perhaps, One of The Sweetest Moments of The Day

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

The week of the wedding can be one of the craziest, busiest times. There are a lot of last minute errands, trips to the salon, remembering those few things that were forgotten, etc. In the midst of all of the craziness, can I please advise one thing: stop and cherish your fiance. This is the last week that you will be fiances. In one week, you will be husband and wife. Tell him/her how much you appreciate him/her. Take a moment and tell him/her why you are so excited to marry him/her. Pour out your excitements. Express your concerns and worries. Simply take a moment and breathe!

While you are out running errands and trying to get everything done in a short amount of time, make it a priority to make one very important stop: Hallmark (or Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, etc—any place that carries cards). Or, better yet, make a homemade card.

Take a moment and write each other a card. This is something that you will keep forever and ever. I still have the card that I wrote my husband and that he wrote me. You can write it the week of the wedding, the night before, the morning of, whatever. Exchange cards sometime on the day of the wedding. I promise, you will be reading some of the sweetest words that you have ever seen. It is something to cherish. The day can go by so fast, but the card, you will keep forever.

What is “Normal” Anyway?

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Who says you have to wear “normal” wedding shoes on your big day? Never compromise your style to do what is “traditional” unless that is what you want. It is so easy to “go by the books” on your wedding day and do what everyone else does. If you have never gone to a wedding that has worn Chacos as wedding shoes, it is hard for yourself to do that. Trust your instinct. Trust your style. Your guests will appreciate it. This is YOUR wedding. Do your thing!

May 23, 2009 Wedding- Fun Colors and Ice Cream Bar

Friday, June 5th, 2009

One of the sweetest girls you have EVER met just got married on May 23rd. I absolutely LOVED helping Amy and her sweet mom with Amy and Andrew’s wedding. It was the perfect wedding. What makes a wedding perfect is when the guests walk into the wedding and the reception and the first thing they say is “wow, that is so their style.”

We had so much fun planning this perfect summer wedding. Pink and Orange were their colors and it all turned out perfect. The garden was gorgeous with pink tulle lining the aisle attached with pink daisy flower balls. The arch was gorgeously decorated as was the aisle with alternating pink and orange rose petals. The reception was ornately decorated with chair covers, sashes, out-of-this-world centerpieces, amazing catering and cakes! It all came together better than planned!amyknippers

One of the very best parts was the ice cream bar. The bride and groom loved ice cream and even had some extremely cute pictures framed of them eating ice cream that were displayed next to everything. Amy found the cutest ice cream “bowls” that were in the shape of an ice cream cone and it came with an attached spoon. The ice cream bar consisted of two different flavors of ice cream and a dozen toppings to choose from: whip cream, chocolate sauce, caramal sauce, strawberry sauce, different kinds of candy, etc. Once again, this was a HUGE hit with the guests. It was a hot afternoon and the best way to cool off was with some ice cream! And it was an added personal touch from the bride and groom. Great way to tell the guests “thanks for coming!”

Amy and Andrew, congratulations! I hope May 23rd was the best day of your lives! I enjoyed helping you with every detail. It was one stunning wedding!
